Two things to watch in the New York Giants first preseason game against the Bills
As I grow older, fatter, and less energetic….I find myself yearning more and more for the start to the NFL season. I blame kids. Stupid children who force us to love them so damn much you can’t breath but also distract us from oogling over sports year round. When I married my lovely non-sports loving wife, she for some crazy reason included me being able to watch football every Sunday as a binding contract. I say all of this to say I have basically gone MIA on all other sports year round except for the NFL. I love ball, and I’ll never stop loving ball.
When I was younger I never gave a damn about the preseason, and I’d shut the game off after seeing the opening kickoff. Times have changed. It has a lot to do with our franchise struggling for the past decade and having big time talent being drafted and getting heavy minutes in the preseason games. This year is no different. We have TWO clear big reasons to watch this game.
I’ll start with someone who is a little more obvious of a stud and possible gold jacket wearer— Abdul Carter.
Abdul Carter is our Swiss army knife, the guy can do it all on the defensive side of the ball. His legend is becoming “Paul Bunyan” like and it is pretty much league wide that this guy is a shoe-in future all-pro. I’m looking to see one thing. That Dwight Freeney spin move 2.0. He’s serious, fearless, and a killer on the field. Every interview I see I hear the exact same themed praise…the man just has “it”. He’s not build like Myles Garrett. He’s not an absolute psycho like Ray Lewis. Or a big ole jolly green giant like Warren Sapp. Abdul Carter is built like many other NFl players, but moves like no one else. Almost weightless on his feet….he has an incredible ability to make the move exactly when the lineman is giving in their leverage. Similar to how Jordan would describe his backdown fadeaway… Carter feels the direction and weight of the lineman and uses it to slap the big boy in the face. Micah Parsons is an obvious comparison, they move similar, same college, and both wore 11….but there’s another achievable comparison that is jogging through my frontal cortex.
Lawrence Taylor….and hopefully he’ll be a better guy too.
Reason to watch #2 and probably way more important due to its lack of certainty…Jaxson Dart. The first round pick hopeful future franchise quarterback will play and see some real NFL action this Saturday when we take on the Buffalo Bills in a glorified exhibition. Things I want to see:
-Quick decisions
-Athleticism
-The willingness to slide and not bulldoze everyone
-Cuteness
I am all-in on Mr. Dart. Great name. Big strong legs. Above average arm. Pure confidence in every interaction I have seen thus far. I am expecting some Eli like interceptions from time to time, but I believe the days of being just absolutely downtroddened by the happy slow feet of Daniel Jones are over. Only Eli Manning can pull off having “Eli Face”… I knew when DJ was garnering those comparisons that we were doomed. But we are on to our next chapter in Jaxson Dart, and I am glass half full about the future of this franchise.
Go Big Blue!!
